Health Insurance & Capitol Hill, Pt.1 – If 90% want it, who can stand against it?

Far too little is being addressed in the presidential debate forum concerning health insurance/care reform than is warranted. Not sure why, since this topic remains as the most striking contrast between the two parties and, more importantly, because it’s so vitally important to so many. Although the McCain camp seems to have downgraded health insurance/care reform to be a minor issue, based of their priority polls, it seems a little peculiar that 90% (+ or – 3%) of the adults in America believe health insurance/care reform needs to be a top agenda for our next president. These findings resulted from a very recent and comprehensive survey conducted by Harris Interactive, Inc. while being sponsored and analyzed by the Commonwealth Fund. (For more on that study, please refer to the article series entitled “Sweeping Demands on Health Care”.). Perhaps this is because Mr. McCain’s poll only reflects opinions of the largest contributors…don’t know.

As far as Mr. Obama, we keep hearing about his ‘total commitment’ to health insurance/care reform. This was readily apparent during the Hillary/Barack contest. The irony is that the health care proposals were starkly similar. This would be a reason to not spend much time in debate. But now the proposals on the table are starkly different. This should be cause for much debate. Perhaps it can be explained that the only real driver, between the three was Hillary. Mr. O needs to very careful about being sapped of precious resources by being drawn into the middle ground swamp with Mr. McCain. Mediocrity will not swing votes. What will swing votes is a strong distinct vision in the correct direction. If either Mr.O. or Mr. Mc. could capture the votes all of those 90% of the of the adults in America who believe health insurance/care reform needs to be a top agenda for our next president, that contender would do well for himself. Health insurance/care reform needs to be a top agenda.
