Health Insurance & Capitol Hill, Pt.6 – Who will be the
‘honchos’?
Previous…
This new health insurance/care reform initiative began in
June and was launched by Senator Grassley and Max Baucus. Mr.
Baucus heads the Finance Committee and the two laid the
groundwork, culminating from a series of meetings for this
serious health insurance/care reform program. The common goal
for this bi-partisan effort was to merge ideas and become
poised for negotiations with whomever would become our next
president by January. Again, the failing economy appears to be
a looming obstacle. In its favor, though, is the undeniable
need for serious health insurance/care reform. Catching it
early this way has the benefit of the fresh funding afforded to
that new person coming into office. As to who the big players
will be, it is expected that if Mr. Obama becomes ‘the man’,
his chief players will probably be the Kennedy-Baucus-Dingell
team. Should Mr. McCain be the man, then his honchos will
likely be the Grassley-McConnell team. In any case, Senator
Wyden, because of his 'junior’ status will probably not have
his name attached to the forthcoming bill.
The announcement of this radical health insurance/care
reform bill is immediately stirring controversy. If Mr.
Goldstein’s objective in writing his article was to generate
feedback and interaction, he certainly succeeded. As opposed to
many ‘blog-fests’ on controversial topics, Mr. Goldstein has
managed to evoke an community of rational and informed
respondents concerning health insurance/care. Many of these are
worthy of further discussion and will be treated in the next
series entitled “Health
Insurance, Capitol Hill & Blogs”.
