Cambridge Study: Millions of ‘Uninsurable’, Pt.1 -- Woe
are the chronically ill.
For the longest time, many of us have waited for some
meaningful data concerning, perhaps the most serious problem
we face with our current health insurance/care system. Finally
we have some and this is projected in a flurry of new
articles. One of the better written was by the Cambridge
Health Alliance people and posted by the wickedlocal.com site,
complete with ‘air time’ for responses from the public (if
only they can consider the topic at all with their blogs). The
topic is health insurance/care, more specifically, the search
for more, accurate detail relevant to our currently collapsing
health insurance/care system.
Probably most Americans know someone who is chronically ill
and are hardly ever able to follow up with prescribed treatment
for lack of funds. They have no health insurance because they
are forever denied. Because of no health insurance, many of
these people are unable to obtain vital medications nor further
necessary procedures for their illness. Many us will eventually
turn a ‘blind eye’ to this hardship because of the hopelessness
associated with it. Maybe this new research can substantiate
world-wide (or at least national ) exposure to the seriousness
of this problem. Maybe a stronger outcry from the general
public can make a difference. Let’s hope so.
The ‘Cambridge’ study was largely based on 2004 data from
government health surveys. These were the latest we had.
Discovered, was that there were “Over 11.4 million Americans
with chronic physical illnesses that had no health insurance”
at that time.
