Counterintuitive Health Headlines, Pt.7 -- The coalitions
and summary.
Previous…
The fifth contender group in the list is the consumer
coalition category. Largely divided, they each have key health
insurance/care agendas (most of them good and intercompatible).
These are groups like the New York-based Commonwealth Fund,
Kaiser Family group and the Robt. Wood Foundation. This
confederation is only loosely tied by a few common goals,
however. Headed by President Karen Davis, the Commonwealth fund
has been responsible for some of the most comprehensive health
insurance/care studies our country has known. The Kaisers and
Johnsons have been right up there as well. Although they each
have developed their own strategies and plans as to ‘a right
way to do things’, their greater focus has been to deliver
honest and unbiased studies and assessments on health
insurance/care to the general public for us to make own value
judgments. For a more complete insight on the Commonwealth Fund
association, please refer to the article series entitled “Commonwealth
Fund’s Most Excellent Healthcare Reform ”.
The sixth contender group in the list is the industry
coalition category. The most prominent member is probably AHIP.
The president of this group, Karen Ignagni claims a membership
of about 1,300 private health insurers, covering over 200
million health insurance policies. They claim to be the largest
largest health insurance national trade group in the country.
They were responsible for the $17 million “Harry and Louise”
campaign that crushed the “Bill and Hillary” health
insurance/care campaign back in 1993. Look to hear more from
“Harry and Louise” in the coming days, just as we have in the
last few weeks. For a more complete insight on AHIP, please
refer to the article series entitled “Health
Insurance; A Noble Goal ”.
This is what it all boils down to. Every American voter
needs to study the facts and base their opinions and decisions
of factual evidence concerning the issues. We have been given
the luxury of having this wealth of information at our
fingertips. Our nation’s future wellbeing will, ultimately,
depend on what we do with this.
