Accepted or Excepted Health Insurance?, Pt.2 – The
breakdown.
Previous…
Another topic of the survey was an inquiry as to which
doctors were accepting new patients at all. That figure was
high, with over 94% that would accept new patients. Things go
down after that. The good news, though, is that there are many
doctors out there and they will accept you under the right
conditions. So what are the best worst and best conditions?
Taken from the subset of these responding doctors who will
accept new patients into their practice, the study came up with
these results:
- Only 57% of the physicians would see patients who
likely had no health insurance.
- 57% were willing to see patients whose only medical
care was Workers' Compensation health insurance.
- 68% of the doctors were willing to see patients
having a capitated type of health insurance.
- 80% of doctors were willing to see new individuals
who were covered by Medicare plans*.
- The best was 89% accepting new patients who had
non-capitated health insurance.
Obviously we all hope to not find ourselves in either of the
first two categories. Some of us, however, are willing to risk
going without any health insurance, perhaps because we feel
healthy and invincible. Our good Dr. strongly and wisely
prescribes we don’t do that. ‘Any health insurance is still
better than no health insurance. All it takes is one mosquitoes
bite or someone ‘texting’ at the wheel to do us in. Billions of
mosquitoes and billions of ‘texters’, I swear!
