What’s all this fighting about?, Pt.11 – What is your viewpoint?

Previous…

Ms. Pipes, next makes the suggestion that “those [health insurance/care] government plans wouldn’t be free. They’d be paid for by tax dollars….” Maybe yes, maybe no, depending on the viewpoint. As far as the ‘Obaman’ health insurance/care plan, about $65 billion can do it. As with most initial proposals, over-runs are always considered part of the package. Mr. O has thoughtfully left some space here for that possibility. As stated earlier, Mr. O’s plan would be funded in a few different ways. One of those is that employers would be mandated to either provide health insurance to their workers, or else pay into the fund. It is expected that this will provide about $45 billion for the fund. Also, more subsidies will be available by repealing President Bush’s income tax cuts for those earning more than $250,000 a year. This adds another $70 to $75 billion a year, available to the fund. As far as raising taxes, here is where the viewpoint comes in.

Mr. Obama’s viewpoint is the importance of committing to, at least, deliver a health insurance/care system which can provide Medical Security, Affordability, Portability and Sustainability in order to provide adequate health insurance for all Americans for the wellbeing of our nation. It all comes down to the wellbeing of our country. His chief domestic advisor, Mr. Cutler has a ready explanation: “The money for the Obama health plan comes from not extending the Bush tax cuts on high-income people who are earning over $250,000 a year.” It is estimated that somewhere between $70 and $75 billion will be readily available every year for a national health insurance/care system that covers all of these axioms. And the beauty is, almost no one will see a tax increase. Maybe only one in a hundred Americans will. Another viewpoint is expressed by a few, but powerful naysayers. That would be: “We can’t do this. It’s just too expensive.”
