American Health insurance System 201, Pt.7 – – Is the health insurance industry happy?

Previous…

To reassess the situation: Either of two major influences, largely not enjoying much publicity, will probably cause a comprehensive health insurance/care reform to fail, if not satisfied: (1) An unhappy health insurance industry or (2) “Not asking tax payers in the right way”. So, treating number (1) first, it’s worth noting that neither presidential candidate is currently advocating mandatory health insurance for all Americans at this point. That point seemed to wane when Hillary dropped out. She has not gone away, however and some other entities have also found value in pursuing this mandate. One of the most visible right now is the non-partisan group in Congress ramping up an initiative for the rapid preparation of a ‘generic’ platform that can be launched from as soon as they learn who will be the next occupant filling the Whitehouse.

Driven by Democratic Oregon Senator, Ron Wyden, this initiative is making news with a radical approach to a new health insurance/care reform proposal. Wyden’s new plan, called the Healthy Americans Act, contains a mandate that would force everyone in the country (at least people with a paycheck) to pay for health insurance. Already drawing much flak from a vocal public, perhaps this group is a jump ahead of the rest, having the advantage of Senator Ted Kennedy and his busy life of hosting countless committee meetings with the various ‘big players’. So this bi-partisan group is almost certainly aware of the critical need for health insurance approval and their requirement of mandating all citizens to acquire health insurance, in order to procure the industry’s graces to cover the ‘uninsurable’ in their large risk pools.
