Latest Mass. Report, Pt. 1 – Mid- to Large Employer.
Another status report is in concerning the Massachusetts
model health insurance/care program. This is the fourth annual
issue and identifies the medium to large companies (having, at
least, 50 employees) who are subscribing to the state’s health
insurance system of subsidized support. The news, which was
released by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services,
is heralded by an article from Mr. Malden and posted on the
wickedlocal.com web site. This report was presented to the
Legislature and provides information concerning how the
state’s employees are using the various aspects of this
comprehensive program. Such entities as the Commonwealth Care,
MassHealth and the Uncompensated Care Pool are included. The
period reflected here is the 2007 Fiscal year. This health
insurance/care ‘test model’ will be closely scrutinized in
order to study trends on some of the ‘untested waters’.
Already, since the implementation of this new health
insurance/care reform style, several trends have been
identified and reveal areas of strengths and areas of
weaknesses. In this latest news, the findings by the Division
of Health Care Finance and Policy, who conducted the analysis
discovered that about $372 million were expended for this group
of employees. These health care services were paid from public
funds to cover employees of over 1,450 companies. Again, these
were mid- to large size employers within the state. The medical
services were administered by way of three different health
insurance/care divisions within the program. As mentioned
above, those agencies were the Commonwealth Care, MassHealth
and the Uncompensated Care Pool.
