Health Insurance/Care Overhaul, Pt.2 – Widespread
agreement among the 80%.
Previous…
Continuing with Julie’s article, she reiterates the huge
problem we have with 47 million Americans with no health
insurance. She explains the current political climate by noting
that both of the major presidential contenders are pledging to
address the health insurance/care crises. Julie provides a
further breakdown of the randomly sampled telephone survey of
1,004 adult Americans taken in May of this year. From the 80%
requiring change, 32% of those voiced strong opinions for a
complete rebuilding of our current health insurance/care system
(such a nationalized medicine/health care). Another 50% (or
half of the 80%) still had strong opinions, but would settle
for fundamental changes. These would still be radical but from
them, only certain components, though foundational, would need
change.
What was particularly striking about this 80% component was
that, what might have been expected to be two opposing
segments; those with health insurance vs. those without health
insurance were in close agreement. Income status seemed to be a
negligible factor also.
When this total 100% of those surveyed is broken down by
segment, it turns out that 89% of the total who’d had no health
insurance for at least a year were part of the 80% listed above
were requiring substantial change. Not a surprise.
But, of those who did have health insurance all year, still
81% of this segment were among the 80% of total figure above
(that is, the 1,004 surveyees). Because the 1,004 sample was
randomly selected, it is projectable for these percentages to
be representive of our whole nation with only a 3 point margin
of error, up or down.
