Sweeping Demands on Health Care, Pt.3 – Let me spell it out for you.

Previous…

The Science Daily has written the most comprehensive article, explaining each of these health insurance/care findings in detail. They have posted it on their website at www.sciencedaily.com/. Because of their hard work, we can now examine each of these findings in greater detail. Starting with the 90% concerning the ‘medical home’; the respondents believe in the importance of having a single doctor that tracks a patient’s experiences. Someone who ‘knows them’. That particular doctor would be "responsible for the patient’s primary care and for coordinating all of their care”, as described in the Science Daily News Report. As for the 90% who want easier medical records access, the Science Daily explains to us: “There was substantial public support for wider adoption of health information technology,” in an effort to improve patient care. These would be things like storing medical records on computer for streamlined electronic access. Easy communication channels for inter-physician communications and between patient and doctor. As for the 73% that had a trouble getting timely doctors' appointments, phone advice, or after-hours care without having to go to the ER, all these people had problems with access, but the group having to rely on the ER were mostly those without health insurance. The main complaints of the 47% of who had become patients and experienced ‘poorly coordinated medical care’ were due to things like not being not informed about their medical test results. These people were forced to make repeated calls to find things out. Also, there was a general lack of information between the doctors and nurses. The same was true between the primary care doctors and the specialists. This group tagged a greater need for better cohesion within the health insurance and medical care systems.
