Health Insurance Empire Strikes Back, Pt.1 – Unprecedented initiative launches.

The welling up of the health insurance/care reform storm is starting to create rip tides and strong undercurrents. One large one that has already been in the tracking is called ‘Health Care for America NOW!’  This ‘current movement’ draws its energy from a loose confederation of labor unions and various liberal nonprofit groups. They are already having strong influence in Congress and in the presidential debates concerning the wave of the future concerning health insurance/care reform. They are committed to demand action against our nation’s worsening health insurance/care crises.

But a new and opposing force is forming quickly and is expected to create some heavy turbulence and large waves to the magnitude of 100,000 committed activists. This front has been given the name "Campaign for an American Solution” and draws most of its strength from the health insurance industry, largely unified by AHIP (America’s Health Insurance Plans).

AHIP is large and boasts a membership of 1,300 private health insurers, cumulatively covering more than 200 million people ( 2 out of every 3 Americans ). As large as this group is, this movement marks an unprecedented campaign by them.

The first major wave of this movement came ashore yesterday in Columbus, OH with the launch of a strategic ‘listening tour’ initiative. It was the first of the many more that are scheduled to follow. To many, it appears like a major marketing offensive, complete with massive advertising to promote private health insurance (after all, that’s the business they’re in).
