Mass. Health, A Creator Explains, Pt.1 – The immediate juncture.

One of the renowned forgers of the heralded Massachusetts Universal Health Insurance Model was former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney. Mr. Romney has been good enough to explain both the innards of the system as well as the ‘outtards’. He begins with the very surprising revelation that the reality was made possible by the Bush Administration. Mr. Romney explains to us that this bi-partisan effort was launched by the efforts of “Massachusetts leaders from both parties,” and the man named Michael Leavitt, our nation’s Health and Human Services Secretary. Mr. Romney also adds that the plan to enroll all citizens in Massachusetts with health insurance is still “on track.” The plan has provided the means for everyone in the state secure their own health insurance and still receive the “same low rates that are paid by employers. The fear is over of losing one’s health insurance because of lay-offs or having to quit a lousy job to find a decent one.

Right now, the survival of this critical ‘smaller model’ health insurance experiment is in the balance. This is our chance to show that our country can stand among the world’s more civilized developed nations and say ‘We, also, can provide for the critical needs of our peoples’. This decision, once again lies in the hands of the Bush Administration. Soon, the Fed will decide if to continue matching “the state's financial contribution” toward the plan as they have done in the past, or not. Should the Bush Administration bail out, the program would be in serious jeopardy. Over a third of a million Americans could find themselves without vital, life saving health insurance ‘over night’.
