Nominees’ Update on Health Insurance, Pt.1 – Where are we
right now?
A good health insurance/care update has been filed by
Reuters – Factbox and posted on www.reuters.com. With health
insurance rating so high in campaign priority, much has been
proposed. Indeed, today health insurance remains one of the
greatest contrasts between the two nominees, with Social
Security retirement issues gaining ground. This Reuters
article presents a good summary of where the two nominees
stand now. Today, our health insurance crises continues to
worsen and, thanks to the many fines articles posted every
day, more and more of our ‘unconcerned’ citizens are becoming
involved. As for the current Social Security retirement
system, it has repeatedly survived the relentless onslaught of
the Bush Administration (and many before him). Both battles
are still raging, however, and our nation deserves, nay,
requires to be informed on continual updates.
Starting with health insurance/care, let’s update ourselves
on where the candidates stand today. Mr. McCain is still
holding to his proposal of, in effect, denying any further tax
breaks to employers who offer employer-based health insurance
(tho his wording artfully escapes divulging this important
change). Thus, as bad as the trend is today of employers
dropping these benefits to their employees, we would expect to
see this trend skyrocket. So, with about 60% of our nation’s
insured relying on the stability of employ-based health
insurance, we might well expect to see that go away. Replacing
it, we see a slightly-modified rendition of an old Bush Admin
plan that didn’t fly. If this tax law should go into effect, we
expect to see a mass migration over to private plans.
