Florida Not There Yet, Pt.1 – Where does Florida rank?
This is not “good news”, but it is good to know. One of our
watchdogs, an advocate group called Florida Health Insurance
Web alerts us of some serious problems, found posted on
TransWorldNews’ Health and Wellness News section. The leading
discovery is where Florida was found in new national health
insurance/care rankings. Florida was found next to the bottom,
just above Oklahoma for childrens’ access to health
insurance/care. This information was provided by the
“first-ever state-by-state health system report focused on
children's” health care, as stated in the article. The
findings also purport that the cost of their health insurance
is above that which is normal and, when combined with other
findings, infer that Florida’s children, statistically, have
less likelihood of 'Living a long healthy life.'
The article further assesses that : "Florida has one of the
worst health care systems in the nation." About one out of
every five children in Florida are not covered by health
insurance. It’s not news that group health insurance is
diminishing in Florida, just like it is everywhere else. But
health insurance consultant, Kirsten Portrie asserts "if we do
not address the reality of Florida's health care problem, we
will never be able to fix it." Giving further detail, Kirsten
adds that Florida is the lowest in the country for access to
health insurance/care, also last for the quality of that care,
worst in cost of medical treatment and the least likely in the
US for their children to “lead happy healthy lives."
