Healthcare in the Forefront, Pt.1 – Don’t lose sight of
it.
Thankfully, our nation has spawned some stalwart leaders
who are not giving up the fight for urgently-needed effective
health insurance/care reform. President and CEO of a
Boston-based healthcare consulting firm called Bender
Strategies LLC, Ellen Lutch Bender has written a rallying
article for the Boston Globe that was posted on boston.com.
She lauds Senator Clinton’s valiant effort as having been the
best health insurance warrior we have seen so far. Even though
Senator Clinton is no longer considered a presidential
hopeful, she has vowed to never give up the fight for bringing
about a comprehensive health insurance/care reform. She still
has a large, devoted gathering of followers. She is hailed for
keeping this comprehensive reform agenda on the “front
burner”.
There is evidence that the health insurance issue may slip
from the limelight of politics without the stalwart support of
the many faithful that brought it there in the first place,
under Hillary. So the call goes out to keep that from
happening. Even though the forefront has been overtaken by the
shattered economy for quite valid reasons, it needs to be
pointed out that even the economy can’t be healthy without “a
functioning healthcare system”, as Ms. Bender puts it. What’s
so tough is that all roads are rough. There is no one road
which satisfies all constituents, there are many diverse
directions and many will be alienated. But it should be common
sense that any nation that pays the most per capita should
visibly receive the best healthcare. This country is already
way out in the lead, with paying 20% of our GDP toward health
care. We are leading the world in medical research, but
woefully falling short in delivering comprehensive health
insurance benefits to our people.
