Healthcare in the Forefront, Pt.5 – Obama’s take on
reform.
Previous…
So we’re back to the health insurance funding issue. It is
multifaceted, of course, but one main ingredient that
steadfastly remains is risk-sharing. An eventual mandate of
health insurance for all adults would go a long way toward the
necessary funding required to reform our nation’s unfixable
current health insurance/care system. Thus far, Mr. Obama has
not committed to mandatory health insurance for all adults.
This is likely the reason that he has prevailed. Certainly not
that Ms. Hillary was wrong. Rather that the American public was
not ready to swallow such a large chunk all at one time. I
believe it safe to say that many millions of Americans are
totally committed to retain Hillary’s focus. Mr. Obama would do
well to incorporate her good wisdom in due time, as
America-at-large becomes more confident with what he already
offers.
To his stead, as Ms.Bender explains, Mr. Obama proposes to
require employers to offer "meaningful coverage" or contribute
to a new public plan“ as part or their responsibility to our
nation. This new plan would cover those without health
insurance because of that employer’s failure to provide it
themselves. Small businesses will also be enabled to provide
health coverage, as well. Some other criticals are built in
also. Like the Massachusetts model, Obama plans to cause health
insurance to be ‘reasonably’ affordable while keeping
out-of-pocket expenses within each enrollee's reach. Obama
would also cause ‘reasonable’ coverage to the worst hard-hit
group of all to be rescued. Though smaller in numbers, most of
those with preexisting conditions are not only destitute beyond
anything ever justifiable in a developed nation, but their
impact extends to far-reaching numbers of people who care and
must, themselves, live in deplorable conditions by just trying
to be humane.
