Obama Health Insurance Insight, Pt.3 – What not to do.

Previous…

Mr. Obama is openly going to challenge the special interest groups and institute universal health care for everyone. He gives the reason why he’s campaigning: “because I believe that health care should be guaranteed for every American who wants it and affordable for every American who needs it.” Obama now brings Mr. McCain into the picture. He emphasizes that his attacks are not personal, but against Mr. McCain’s bad policy goals. He states adamantly that McCain’s health insurance/care goals are not any different from the “ones that have failed us for the last eight years.” He mentions that it all begins with health insurance/care. How health insurance cost increases have quadrupled over wage increases since Bush took office. Speaking to the Virginia crowd, he related how health insurance costs for the families of their state has risen over 35%. Nationally, 7 million additional Americans have become uninsured, 200,000 just in Virginia. He accuses McCain of “doubling-down” Bush’s policies that have done almost nothing for ordinary Americans.

Comparing McCain to Bush, he states that McCain’s plan only benefits those who need it least – the wealthy and healthy. Forget about covering all the Americans with health insurance, forget about controlling costs, McCain only offers a meager tax cut which won’t even cover half of a family plan. It still won’t provide affordable health insurance for the “hardworking Americans who need help most.” Not only will McCain’s plan not lower health insurance and medical costs, it may well serve to drive them yet higher. By weakening the current employer-based health care system used by most Americans, we will be at the mercy of the “whims of the market”.
