Scaled-Back Health Insurance in Nevada, Pt.4 -- A
new strategy.
Previous…
Many other private health insurance companies are in hot
pursuit of these people. One of these companies, called Anthem
is the second-largest health insurer in Nevada. The largest is
UnitedHealth's Sierra Health Services. Anthem are targeting
this group of people with a suite of health insurance plans
called Tonik. These plans run from $91 per month to $178 per
month. They cover things like eyewear, dental plans,
prevention, serious injuries and other emergencies. They offer
other plans, like the $96 per month Lumenos plan. This plan is
primarily oriented toward prevention. They also offer a PPO
plan called "RightPlan PPO”. This plan has no deductibles and
focuses on visits to doctors, with a $40 co-pay.
Roughly a third of the Nevada clients are enrolled in
Anthem’s individual health insurance plans. This represents
around 95,000 of their 270,000 clients. Because Nevada has such
a healthy growth rate, Anthem anticipates much more business in
the future. Right now, Anthem is putting together a whole new
suite of products to be rolled out at year’s end. They expect
to offer as many as 10 ways to go. As is widely known, the
employer-based health insurance business is dwindling. Anthem's
regional vice president of sales in three states, including
Nevada, Scott Workinger comments on this opportunity: “Anthem
Blue Cross and Blue Shield wants to offer as many different
options to folks as we can, and also to reach the uninsured."
Aetna announced it’s entrance to the market in Nevada,
offering individual health insurance plans. The plans, which
were introduced back in May of last year, are called Aetna
Advantage Plans for Individuals and Families. Eight plans are
offered, altogether, and include high deductible plans-linked
with HSAs, PPO plans and hospital plans.
