The Stress of Obtaining and Retaining Health Insurance –
Worry, worry, worry.
Medical News Today has recently posted an interesting
article on MedicalNewsToday.com that brings to our minds the
emotional well-being of our society. They bring out the plight
of many Americans who live in anxiety with fear of losing
their health insurance or of losing the health insurance they
already have, due to the rising premium costs or because of
rescission. Those worst off are those in poor health,
especially those with chronic conditions. They worry their
present standard of living could quickly dissolve over one
mishap, if they lost their health insurance.
According to the Wall Street Journal, people must strive
hard to land employment where group health insurance is
offered. People are even going so far as to get married just to
get health insurance. Some even delay divorces for that same
reason. More and more small businesses, including the
self-employed actually incur the added expense of increasing
employment in order to qualify for the better group rates and
benefits afforded only to the larger businesses. People are now
making major decisions in life based up health insurance
concerns, such as, where they will live and retirement age. A
at Georgetown University research professor from the Health
Policy Institute named Karen Politz has researched this out.
She has found that "People are turning themselves inside out to
get health insurance."
And again, the Journal claims "Financial advisers say health
coverage worries are rampant among clients.” Those most
affected are the ones with medical problems. They spend much
time deliberating ways to keep the health insurance they
already have and ways to convert over to private individual
health insurance without losing it all by being excluded
because of a pre-existing condition. Obtaining access to good
health insurance has become a big deal in today’s society,
according to a Ventura, California certified financial planner
named Leon Rousso. He summarizes with "You may have the
financial means to pay for premiums but not be able to get
coverage, leaving you exposed to potentially catastrophic
losses if you become ill."
