FL Gov. Crist Approves Badly Needed Health Insurance, Pt.3
-- Start Comparing
Previous…
One of the key benefits hoped to be gained by this new bill
is that by making “cheaper health insurance” available, Florida
residents will be more likely to treat problems earlier,
instead of waiting until they escalate to an emergency level.
It is hoped that this will appreciate a substantial savings in
medical costs. Emergency visits are some of the highest costs
encountered. As Governor Crist words it, “One in five
Floridians goes to bed at night worrying about how to pay for
medical care, and they wait to go to the doctor until they have
a medical emergency”. Another benefit is directed at the small
businesses having under 50 workers. They will now be offered
many different health insurance plan options. These options
extend beyond what are normally considered “health insurance”
and include things like HSAs (tax-exempt Health Savings
Accounts)..
As the states are left to fend for themselves because of the
national government’s shifting health insurance burdens on
them, our country is observing a plethora of new schemes coming
from many states with very differing views. For our nation to
escape the devastating woes of a self-destructing health care
system, it is imperative that the residents of each state pay
close attention to the success of their respective states
compared to the success of other states. Several other states
already have ambitious health insurance/care programs that have
matured sufficiently to serve as benchmarks of success. Any new
strategy can now be measured by metrics that are being either
proven or disproven as we speak. The question may be “can the
constituents vigilantly step up and make the right choices?”
