Hillary’s Health Care Plan Clarified -- Cover everyone.

Plainly speaking to us all from Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, OR yesterday, Hillary went to great length to clarify her focus. Of course she shares a common goal with the other candidates, we all want a good Health Care system to replace the shamefully fraught one we have currently muddled into. It becomes important to seek clarity, not confound it. Some are even saying (repeatedly) that all Hillary wants to do is go straight to total national healthcare. No no no! So to rise above the muddle, let’s look at focus. Focus on focus. As the Washington Post reports, Hillary has “…cast herself as the only candidate fighting to ensure health care for all Americans”. She goes on to say that the distinction to cover ALL Americans underscores the importance of her candidacy. The existence of some of the most destitute in this great nation are cleverly kept in political obscurity by too many. These are persons who can’t get health insurance due to serious pre-existing conditions, those who really do work hard but still can’t afford health insurance and both kinds of unemployed; those who are still being paid benefits and those who receive nothing (benefits expired or a host of other reasons. These people are not considered unemployed simply because they are being paid any benefits and so are hidden from being counted.) Many of these are life-and-death situations, yet only Hillary is stepping up to the plate for them. Of the developed nations, the US seems to be unique in its nontreatment of this substantial group.

Hillary states that her plan would cover everyone, both children and adults. She continues by emphasizing that placing an artificial distinction between adults and children simply won’t work. The healthcare must be seamless. She now defines her focus: “This is a big difference in this campaign and really it's not a difference of politics so much as commitment." She further said. "One of the reasons I wanted to run for president was to finish the work I started in 1993 and 1994." Of course the thrust is to get health insurance to the 47 million Americans currently with none. Hillary would require all to have it, while Barack would allow adults to go without health insurance.
