Save But Don’t Skimp On Health Insurance, Pt2 -- Best Buy

Deductibles are one of the more high-dollar decisions when
choosing a health insurance plan. The range in cost of
conventional deductibles is generally extreme and this is
reflected in the costs. However, more recently,
High-Deductibles are becoming more popular. The premium cost
may be reduced almost in half of the other plans. These are
best suited to situations where little medical attention is
expected. It has been found that many people can go year after
year with little need for medical attention and don’t require
an extensive health insurance plan. When several family
members are included in the health insurance plan, especially
when children are included, high deductibles are probably not
the best choice. Many plans limit maximum out of pocket
expense to double the amount of a single person plan, but not
all. For those that do, the medium deductible may be the best
choice. When there are expectations of several smaller
filings, the lowest deductible may be the best bet for your
health insurance plan.
When it comes to “co-pays”, there are many smaller issues
to consider. These range from prescriptions to doctor visits.
Normal prescriptions can range from $10 to $60 each. Co-pays
could reduce this to $5 or $10. Office visits can range from
$100 to $250 each. Specialists are generally even higher.
Copays for these could nominally be $50 to $100. Some health
insurance plans even offer free visits for preventive
healthcare. Again, it is best to project the number and nature
of co-pays that might be expected. Plans can vary widely in
this area and the costs are adjusted accordingly. Decide on
the anticipated risk accordingly when selecting a health
insurance plan.
