Save But Don’t Skimp On Health Insurance, Pt3 -- Best Buy tips

Previous...

Of course we all prefer the freedom of choosing our own doctors and medical providers. But this can make a large difference in the cost of our health insurance premiums. Seriously consider searching out suitable “in-network” providers. Your savings can be substantial. Even though more and more providers are dropping out of the networks, but still listed as in-network, there are usually still a reasonable supply of good choices left. Medical providers drop out for many reason, but most seem to lean toward higher rates or to escape paperwork. Remember, while the health insurance network is attempting to control skyrocketing medical costs, it is actually trying to save you overburdening expenses. The additional business given to the medical provider is intended to compensate them for the controlled cost. Marketing and and low-volume are expensive for most businesses, and the “free” referrals that networks provide offer greater stability for most of these providers (all the paperwork is another story, of course…some plans are better than others).

Lastly, search out local civic organizations and local (or state) government organizations (such as a local chamber of commerce) that provide group associations for health insurance. Their purpose is to promote community health at lower cost and, as such, are more prone to allow you better choices. With medical costs skyrocketing as they are, it’s becoming much more important then ever to make good choices. Don’t be dragged into fear tactics, but be aware that the number one cause of personal bankruptcy now is caused by medical expenses. Of these cases, about ¾ of those started out with medical coverage but, either the coverage was insufficient or the medical expenses were way beyond what was expected. If available, consider a Health Savings Account and start stocking it right away to hedge the remote possibility of “the worst”.
