The Bush Sequel – Starring John McCain, Pt.2 -- the
Storyline
Previous…
On the other side of the line, we see the Blue Army, led by
a less-military figure, sometimes called “the Negotiator”. The
Blue Army’s strategy is to take the best of what we have from
the health care system we currently have and enforce a unified
direction, based on a utilitarian philosophy, meaning
“…generate the greatest good for the greatest number of
people”. On their right flank, they plan to shore up the weak
employer health insurance system with exercise. Exercise a
“membership fee” to the “employee well-being fund”, for those
employers who decide to opt out of active participation and
not offer health insurance plans to their employees. ( This
also serves as incentive to offer health insurance.)
On the left flank we see the hurting masses (over 47
million of them). These are the creation of one of the
greatest anomalies any developed nation has faced. They are
those who either can’t afford health care or those who have
been rejected by the current system because of poor health
conditions (“Our health care system can’t help you, you’re not
well). It’s not certain if this group is able to speak.
Perhaps it’s because they’re not collected enough to speak
with one voice. The monumental task of the Blue Army is to
organize these to a point where they can speak collectively.
The stakes are high, but the reward could be a focused effort
to provide affordable health insurance to nearly all of these
destitutes and save them from bankruptcy (most common cause
today is medical expense), death (18,000 in 2000, 22,000 in
2006) or both.
