Will Obama Health Care Prevail?, Pt.3 – Shape up Medicare,
etc.

Medicaid eligibility
is also likely to become the early object of health
insurance/care reform. This move will be to include greater
numbers of the uninsured, moving toward another cornerstone of
Mr. O’s plan. This move is likely to show timely results that
are so badly needed with health insurance/care right now.
Americans are anxious to see and feel something moving in a
situation where health insurance/care has been placed on hold
due to the meltdown.
About the only good
news concerning health insurance/care of any substance for the
past year was the findings of the 2007 US Census report. That
report recorded that the number of Americans having no health
insurance had fallen from 47 million to 45.7 million in that
year. It was the first and only time a decline was reported
since that ascendancy of Bush to the White House.
Deregulation pundits
were quick to claim credit and declare that the health
insurance/care crisis was resolving itself so government
intervention wouldn’t be necessary after all. However, the
public was not fooled for long. The following day, reports were
heralded nationwide that the number would actually have
increased, were it not for a recent expansion of Medicaid and
other government programs. So expansions of programs like
Medicare are a good ticket item right now because they’re both,
do-able and show timely results.
Perhaps, in the
not-to-distant future we will see the formation of more
significant health insurance/care initiatives. These will be
things like health insurance/care subsidies for lower-income
individuals and small businesses to enable health insurance in
the first place. These subsidies would help defray the costs of
purchasing health insurance.
