Will Obama Health Care Prevail?, Pt.5 – Employer and
employee well-being.
Previous…
The Massachusetts universal
health insurance/care model has been developing a similar
system for two years now and finally has things smoothing out.
They tried implementing a 6% of employee-pay as a reasonable
assessment. They found that this figure was too low for two
reasons. One reason they learned was that employers found 6%
too tempting because it was cheaper than what they were already
paying. So they opted out of continuing to offer health
insurance benefits in favor of the cheaper route of just paying
the 6% and putting it all on the government to provide the
health insurance for these employees through the national
exchange system.
Not surprisingly, the other
problem was that the amount of revenue from a 6% contribution
fell way short of covering the additional funding required to
provide health insurance elsewhere for these displaced
employees. The latest trial being used by the Massachusetts
universal health insurance model is 7% and it seems to be
working well. Mr. O and his advisors have long been studying
this model and likely will go with something close to this 7%
figure. But, as yet, this figure has yet to be announced and
any action on this whole subject is not expected until the
economy itself becomes more stable.
Meanwhile, Mr. O’s eye has
always been on creating jobs. The rein of the ‘Bush watch’ has
produced the most deplorable job situation in this country
we’ve experienced in 20 to 30 years and is still plummeting out
of control. The health insurance, however, still remains a top
priority to Mr. O.
