Right to Adequate & Affordable, Pt.1 – Health or economy;
how about both?
Technical or not, it doesn’t take Einstein to see that
health insurance and the economy are tied together. Without the
means, a family can’t afford health insurance. Without health
insurance, the average American can’t afford necessary health
care.
With the turmoil the Bush legacy has left us, we need to
understand that things will get even worse if voters don’t get
involved to stop it. We don’t need ‘nicer’ health insurance. We
don’t need ‘cheaper’ health insurance. We don’t need kindly
CEO’s giving back to us.
- 30 million Americans can’t afford health insurance
because they’ve on the edge of poverty.
- 25 million more have health insurance, but it’s so
inadequate that they can’t afford food and shelter and are
heading toward bankruptcy.
- 15 million more have chronic health conditions and
can’t get health insurance because they’re either denied or
can’t afford the astronomical premium rates underwritten to
them.
- That’s 70 million Americans just from last year.
Figures are certainly higher today and the only hope for the
rest of us is active involvement.
Must we only learn through personal devastation? How
important are gun laws, immigration and golden parachutes to us
when we’re denied necessary medical operations and being
bankrupted from medical bills? If you think you’re ‘lucky’,
then you should quit that ugly low-paying job (if you’re
‘lucky’ enough to have one at all) and try living off the
lottery. With an administration caught up in greed and apathy,
don’t expect Washington to care about you. You don’t deserve
adequate and affordable health insurance any more than you
deserve a new Lexus. There’s only one hope. American voters
must examine the Presidential candidates’ proposals and demand
acceptable change. ‘Trickle-down’ economics can never work;
don’t believe the greedy are willing to share. That would be an
oxymoron.
