Right to Adequate & Affordable, Pt.4 – Obama delivers;
McCain must explain.
Previous...
Should the
government be more involved in health insurance? Should the
government have been more involved in home mortgage lending?
So, therein lies the answer to both. Mr.
Reinhardt
states that the one candidate who knows the necessity of
government involvement in health insurance is Mr. Obama.
Everyone would have to agree if they also agree that our nation
needs to be mindful of its domestic health. ‘Every man for
himself’ speaks of pathetic disunity. Being mindful of
domestic health doesn’t mean ignoring 75 million citizens who
either have no health insurance or, what they have is
dangerously inadequate.
Mr. Obama
understands this well and is very committed to addressing it.
Mr. McCain doesn’t seem to think this is an important issue.
Although not mandating everyone, Mr. Obama is determined to
make universal health insurance/care accessible and available
to all. He does, however, mandate that all the children be
covered with health insurance because they can’t defend
themselves and need some social protections.
In order to
implement a project so big, Mr. O is drawing from proven
research and a working model. The working test bed being
referenced is the Massachusetts model, which is a universal
health insurance/care system.
His proposal
is to set up government entities to offer adequate and
affordable public health insurance. The adequacy will be
similar to what the members of Congress enjoy. Premium costs
will be scaled according to what families and individuals can
afford. So both adequacy and affordability will be made
available to the entire American population. Mr. McCain seems
to never mention adequacy, only his provision to cheapen and
provide less coverage.
