Right to Adequate & Affordable, Pt.6 – Obama’s healthcare
cost reductions.

As part of
this health insurance/care reconstruction, Mr. Obama
also plans to expand Medicaid. As critics tried to claim
credit for last year’s reduction of those without health
insurance from 47 million to 45.7 million, it was later
found that the reduction had actually resulted from a minor
expansion of Medicaid. Since this was shown to be so effective
(as effective as Mr. McCain’s entire health insurance/care
package over five years would do), it is seen as a very
effective measure.
As far as Mr.
O’s
$2,500 a year
reduction of health insurance costs for the average
family, Mr. Reinhardt doesn’t doubt its plausibility. But he
does caution us that the savings projected may require some
time to take effect. The reason is that it’s based on
providing health insurance where there is none now,
thereby improving health for people who now delay or forego
preventive treatment. By waiting, as they are doing now, those
people end up costing taxpayers and others much more money.
That money will be saved over time as those people become
healthier and the treatment costs become greatly reduced.
Another
great savings along this line is the reduction of
‘free-riders’. Instead of having to visit Emergency Rooms
because of no health insurance, people will have health
insurance and no excuse for prevailing on ERs for
non-emergencies. This has already worked great in the
Massachusetts model. For the story behind this proven success
in Massachusetts, please refer to the article series’

Medical Model Shines” and

Health, A Creator Explains “.
