Understand the Big Picture, Please, Pt.5 – Cheap health
insurance doesn’t cut it!
Previous…
Karen Davis is the president of the Commonwealth Fund group.
As spokesperson for the group, she feels it important to remind
us that we must not let the $700 billion debacle cloud over the
urgency of health insurance/care reform. She reminds us of the
unbroken trend of the continued increase of Americans not
having health insurance. The number has increased by 20% since
1999. It seems that only the Commonwealth Fund has taken up the
arduous task of another very serious problem. That is the
crisis of the wellbeing for those with inadequate health
insurance.
This is not just an inconvenience or mere cramp in
lifestyle. The under-insured represent a significant percentage
of the most common cause of personal bankruptcy in out nation.
In many cases, these people are struggling to ‘do the right
thing’ by securing the best health insurance they can afford.
Unfortunately, the insurance they can afford is inadequate.
They’re already at the point where whole families have to go
without food, heating fuel and needed healthcare just to keep
up payments on this health insurance.
Herein lies another very important direct crisis issue.
Destitute working families with health insurance being
bankrupted by medical bills. Cheap insurance just doesn’t work!
It must be both; affordable and adequate.
There seems to no evidence that Mr. McCain has ever
addressed this issue. He needs to, or else explain why. C’mon
mediators. This is core stuff. No more side-stepping. We need
explanations. Just providing cheap health insurance just won’t
cut it!
