Focusing On the Big Picture, Pt.4 – Access is the most
important choice.

Mr. Obama’s health insurance/care plan takes a totally
different approach. Taken from variations of the Massachusetts
universal health insurance model, he plans to implement the
major elements that have proven to be workable. Although
Obama’s plan isn’t intended to achieve total universal health
insurance coverage by every American, he is still committed to
make that possible, should the American people want it. By
that, he is pushing very hard to achieve the ability to
accommodate every citizen who would desire health insurance.
To implement this monumental task, he is seeking to foster
many different kinds of health insurance access choices. First
of all, he plans to build on the few good components we
currently have that are still working and can be fixed. Since
lack of government regulation failed so badly in the housing
market, he doesn’t believe it wise to make the same mistake in
the health insurance market. As such, many of the ills that are
destroying our current healthcare system will be taken under
control.
Regulators will be much more involved to secure our
employer-based, private-based and even our public-based health
insurance structures. Employers will be expected to share some
responsibility for providing health benefits for their workers.
Private health providers will also be expected to share some
responsibility, by covering those people who, today, are
flat-out denied coverage. A new public entity will be created
to cover those who can’t afford adequate coverage any other
way.
This is not designed to be a heavy-handed approach in any
way. Provisions are being made to help each health insurance
entity benefit the country while benefiting themselves as well.
