Medicare: The Next Golden Goose, Pt.4 – Slay the ‘golden goose’ for Thanksgiving.

Previous…

The reason some of these lesser issues are so important is due to the dangerous trend. When important issues are placed on the conveyer and mixed in, they can be overlooked until it’s too late. This is definitely the case with Medicare and Medicaid. All the hoopla about the reduction of the 47 million Americans with no health insurance to only 45.7 million in 2007 was showcased as a victory for the McCain campaign. The implied meaning was that the health insurance/care crisis was resolving itself, so the government doesn’t need to be involved. But soon, it came to light that the only reason for this reduction was because of government involvement! Extension of government programs like Medicare and Medicaid were reason for this reduction. Without this government intervention, the number of Americans without health insurance would have, actually, risen again, for the eighth year in a row.

Though short-lived, this was another example of a candidate distorting proportions for political manipulation. So now, we’re being attacked with one of the most serious and detrimental distortions. This time the Medicare and Medicaid ‘golden geese’ are being placed on the chopping block just in time for Thanksgiving. Some people are so short-sighted that they’ll grab every ounce of gold they can right now, without regard that the life that perpetually produces new gold comes to an end. It’s reported that Mr. McCain plans to grab 20% of Medicare’s and Medicaid’s funding right now. He is distorting proportions by saying its all money that’s, currently, being wasted by inefficiency. So, the primary cause of reduction in those without health insurance will be chopped at the knees. In all it’s vagueness, the McCain campaign has never committed to provide actual projections of how many uninsured Americans would gain sustainable and adequate health insurance. So, if the crisis worsens, no apologies are necessary, since there was no commitment in the first place.
