Destitute vs. McCain, Pt.2 – Rejected w/ McCain ; Accepted w/ Obama.

Previous…

A caring person, signed in as ‘Jackie’ is concerned for a dear friend who’s husband passed away. Now this friend is without health insurance. She is 62 years of age and has been diagnosed with cancer. ‘Jackie’ is asking for advice from the health insurance-minded web community. Can McCain’s or Obama’s health insurance plans help her friend?

Signed in as ‘kaleberg’, advice is given that Mr. Obama’s health insurance plan would help her friend. Her friend may have to pay for a premium, but the health insurance will be affordable to her and she will not be turned away.

‘kaleberg’ then goes on to explain that, with Mr. McCain’s health insurance plan, she will not get any medical help but she will get the "reassurance that the Free Market feels her pain.”

Next comes a testimony from a person signed in as ‘Anon’ ‘Anon’ states that he has always been in good physical shape. At age 22, he qualified for the Army’s Delta Force and could run 5 miles/day in 35 minutes, weighing in at 205 lb. His BMI was 28 and would have been listed as nearly obese using today’s standards. Now, at age 51, weighing in at 250 lb, he still walks 10 miles through woods when he goes hunting. He also bicycles 20 miles twice every week and works the treadmill three times a week for 45 minutes at a 3.5 mph pace. He is considered large, but not huge. Other than mild hypertension (inexpensively treated), he is considered to have good health.

His concern, when applying for health insurance was that he smokes two cigars a day. So when he was denied as being ‘un-insurable’, he suspected it was because of his smoking. But he was told “No, it’s your weight.” When he requested a physical examination to determine his health, that was declined also. So now, he cannot get health insurance anymore. His final assessment of our current system is that “Our insurance industry is a disaster.”

With Mr. McCain’s health insurance proposal, it seems unlikely his situation would change. With Mr. Obama’s plan, he would be guaranteed affordable coverage.
