Main Street’s Feedback on Obama, Pt.2 – A very good
question.

The next feed is from blogger signed in as ‘thecodemonk’.
This is the best kind. It represents valuable research and well
developed insight. ‘thecodemonk’ shares with us some fine
details that evoke essential questions concerning health
insurance funding. The first great question is: “…but at what
cost?” Drawing official information on actual health insurance
costs from the federal employment benefits web site.
‘thecodemonk’ has researched the cost of a federal plan that is
parallel to an average private health insurance/care package.
‘thecodemonk’ informs us this federal plan would cost about
$850 a month for a family plan. Since the eligibles right now
are (or were) federal employees, the government, like other
employers, picks up between 71% to 81% of the tab. This leaves
the employee paying about $250 a month.
‘thecodemonk’’s point is that Mr. Obama has committed to
offer this type of health insurance to the qualifying public.
Yet the public are not federal employees. So who picks up the
71% tab that the government picks up for its employees? It it’s
no one, then it’s a rotten deal. Great question. Mr. Obama
should be pressed for this answer and anyone who finds accurate
insight on the matter can share the news with the rest of us.
In any case, independent non-partisan expert organizations seem
to agree that Mr. O’s plan will end up covering about 35
million Americans within 5 years who would, otherwise, have no
health insurance, compared to only 1 – 2 million that Mr. Mc’s
would cover.
