No Right to Adequate & Affordable, Pt.3 – Not
honorable or ‘straight’, but insulting.
Previous...
Even though
these health insurance expenses are only taxed as ordinary
income, the fact is that the health insurance expense consumer
will be paying is rising three times faster than the,
otherwise, cost of living. If consumers pay more, they will be
taxed more. As Mr.
Reinhardt puts
it: “Over time, the added taxes people will pay will in fact
exceed the tax credit.” Within 5 or 6 years, consumers will
find themselves paying a higher tax increase then the tax
credit they receive. This is only the beginning. At triple
the change rate, this difference will become very significant
over time. Within 10 years, this tax increase is expected to
have doubled what it originally was. Compare this with Mr.
Obama’s 10-year projection of reducing
health insurance costs by $2,500 a year.
Mr.
Reinhardt
became very frustrated when he tried to research these
health insurance proposal findings on McCain’s
website. Especially conspicuous was the difficulty required
for even an expert to find acknowledgement in the
health insurance portion of
the site. All that can be found
are ‘a few oblique references’ to an “income tax
liability,” as referenced in the site. No further explanation
is given. Mr. Reinhardt was compelled to inform those
responsible: “Guys, that’s not honorable, that’s not straight
talk, that borders on insult.”
Now some
will justify the ‘dishonorable means’ to justify an ‘instant
gratification end’. So it might be implausible to rectify this
approach. But one major issue still stands: Mr. McCain
appears to place little value on our nation’s domestic health.
His proposal appears to totally disregard the importance of the
70.7 Americans who do not have adequate and affordable health
insurance.
