Speaking Up On Health Insurance, Pt.2 – The Obama plan, simplified.

Previous…

With the Obama plan, workers can not only keep their existing employer health insurance, but Mr. O plans to bolster it. In addition to his requirement that employers, at least participate in assisting their employees acquire health insurance, he also plans to give employers who do maintain health insurance for their employees some relief. He is proposing that the government step in to help out with the more expensive charges by offering subsidies. Large business who won’t offer health insurance to their employees, will be assessed a fee to help cover those employees elsewhere.

To help with voter choices, here are some of the pros: and cons: of Mr. Obama’s health insurance proposal:

Pros:

1) About 34 million of the 45.7 million Americans with no health insurance, will now have adequate and affordable health insurance.
2) The 12 million remaining without health insurance will have adequate and affordable health insurance available to them.
3) The 25 million Americans who have inadequate health insurance will all have adequate health insurance available to them.
4) All the children will be insured.
5) Over time, premium costs will continue to drop, before settling at about a $2,500 savings on the average premium.
6) Around 20,000 American lives can be saved each year by insuring those who now die every year for lack of health insurance.
7) 15 to 20 million Americans having chronic or pre-existing conditions and are currently denied health insurance would be able to buy it at an affordable price.

Cons:

1) Large business employers will be compelled to contribute to the well-being of their employees.
2) People being paid over $250,000 a year will see a tax increase (back to pre-Bush level).
3) The plan is very aggressive, some have doubts.
4) Adults are not required to get health insurance, only encouraged.
