Speaking Up From the Blog, Pt.1 – Finally, closing the loop of communications.

Previous…

Our nation is in a health insurance/care crisis and people finally are speaking out. We could speak of ordinary people like you and I and like Sidney McCarther, a retiree of Amoco Corp. Sidney spends his time ‘looking over his shoulder’ or more accurately watching his mailbox. He’s afraid of receiving that letter saying that his health insurance coverage has been dropped. He’s not alone. Over 71 million Americans are already down and out, either having inadequate no health insurance or none at all. Even though this is only 24% of America (about one out of every four), the 3-second rule is finally establishing itself as a mainstream principle. The ‘3-second rule’ is being used to explain how long it takes for a person to become financially destroyed by a totally unforeseen bad injury or illness. At some point, wise on-lookers will realize that change is demanded if they are to be spared the consequences of those around them. Mr. McCarther believes that Americans should not have to choose between feeding their family and buying medicine. He finishes by stating: “They need to start looking at what is the best way to come up with an affordable health plan for all Americans.”

Certainly this is true with health insurance issues. The next few articles will survey several hardship testimonies in a cross-sectional view of some typical health insurance situations that may be closer to us than we think.
