Speaking Up On Obama’s Plan, Pt.3 – Critics
speak up, but who speaks up to Washington?
Previous…
Critics also point out that Obama’s health insurance plan
doesn’t address some fundamental flaws in our current health
insurance/care system. One of them, they believe, is the
transparency of health care costs for those who have good
health insurance. Since it doesn’t cost them any more, some
people tend to abuse the system. They solicit un-necessary
treatment or treatment that is more expensive than they need.
Conservatives would like to see higher costs passed on to the
consumer so they will be more mindful of their spending.
Ophthalmologist with Discover Vision Centers in Kansas City,
John Doane, puts it this way: “If somebody else is paying for
it, everybody in America will want everything. But when they
start paying a good portion themselves, then they will become
smart shoppers.”
Enter, now, the ‘Washington reality’. Things are much less
defined from this point on. The real question is, what will the
Congress allow for their approval and what appendages will they
insert into any bill that they will approve. The way it has
been, regardless of what the public wants, things are going to
be done ‘the Washington Way’. Mr. O speaks often of changing
this. Noble as it may be, this ambition is probably more
difficult than winning the Presidential election itself.
Getting a completely reformed health insurance bill through
Congress untouched is, at best, an idealized dream. But passing
a bill which attends to the most important issues is much more
viable if presented by a very influential of a well-respected
leader. Everyone in Congress wants to be part of a very
successful vision. Americans are very ripe for serious health
insurance/care reform if it answers their needs. Otherwise,
there isn’t expected to be any meaningful change out of
Washington.
