Hazy, Risky Health Plan, Pt.1 – Let’s not fall into the
sewer again.
Well, it’s about time. We’re getting down to the wire and
straight truth is finally surfacing concerning Mr. McCain’s
health insurance/care proposals. The days are fading when all
a candidate had to do was smile reassuringly that he would fix
everything and then, when confronted with the question “How?”
would artfully dodge over to an attack on his opponent.
Finally people are becoming serious about critical answers
about “how” this plan would ‘fix’ the health insurance/care
crisis. Non-partisan, John Harkey has just published a very
fine article concerning the truth in Mr. McCain’s health
insurance proposal for The Tennessean Times and posted it on
their tennessean.com website.
Mr. Harkey quickly sorts out the crux of the health
insurance situation. Deregulation. Mr. McCain’s proud stance
about deregulation, with its positive spin, is no longer the
selling point it was a month ago. So many Americans had refused
to look down at their feet when they were told there was an
open manhole in front of them called ‘Deregulation’. They
seemed surprised when they fell through. Deregulation and
regulation themselves are actually neutral – neither good nor
bad. But their application is almost always, one of the two. It
all comes down to healthy balance – the right amount. The two
extremes are both extremely bad. Mr. McCain is an extremist (or
was, at least, till the meltdown). What Mr. Harkey is wisely
pointing out is the warning that there’s, yet another open
manhole, still in front of us (an un-disarmed land mine,
actually). That, would be the extreme deregulation in Mr.
McCain’s health insurance proposal.
