As The Time Draws to A Close..,Pt.4 – Obama covers 34 million; McCain only 2 million.

Previous…

Perhaps the boldest innovation Obama proposes will be a new federally-regulated exchange where Americans not having employer-based health insurance would be able to choose from a very high-quality government plan. That would be the same health insurance plan that the Congress and other federal employees are so fond of. A variety of other private group health insurance plans will also be available. Obama is planning to create a new public program that will compete with the private insurers to foster competition among them, as well.

The ‘Times’ believes that, although Mr. Obama’s plan is a better start than Mr. McCain’s, it is still not likely to help all of the Americans who need and deserve adequate and affordable health insurance/care. But most recent studies conducted by five independent well-respected health insurance/care-economics organizations (The Urban Institute; the Brookings Institution; the nonprofit, nonpartisan New America Foundation, a public policy institute; the Kaiser Family Foundation; nonprofit, non-partisan Employee Benefit Research Institute; Jonathan B. Oberlander, an associate professor social medicine and health policy at the UNC at Chapel Hill; and the Journal of Health Affairs) have all arrived at the same conclusions.

They project that all McCain’s shifting is expected to only begin covering as many as 5 million of the 45.7 million Americans who now have no health insurance. After five years’ time though, that figure is expected to dwindle back to covering only 2 million of those Americans without health insurance.

By contrast, Mr. Obama would reduce the uninsured population by 18 million Americans within one year and reduce it by 34 million within 10 year’s time. In addition to this, all the children are to be covered. Also, all those who are currently denied or priced out of health insurance due to chronic or pre-existing conditions will be guaranteed adequate affordable health insurance.
