Cost Proposal, Pt.4 – ‘Show me the protection!’

Previous…

To sum it all up in time for the election, here is a clear guideline to understand what is at stake and would be done to protect our nation against it’s greatest health and wellbeing threats. The greatest threats come from the crisis and not from convenience. They center around a rub between philosophies, juxtaposed on ‘social wisdom’ (‘Do we ever share for the greater?’ or ‘Do we sometimes share for the greater?’ ‘Is health insurance/care a basic right?’ or ‘Is health insurance/care only for the privileged?’

In the article referenced from the beginning article in this series entitled “As The Time Draws to A Close..,”, the New York Times endorses Barrack Obama’s health insurance proposal. The reasons they give are that:

1) It would cover far more of the Americans who have no health insurance.

2) The risks and costs would be spread more equitably.

3) This plan would result in more adequate health insurance for most Americans.

As far as Mr. McCain’s plan, the ‘Times’ is concerned that it “would jeopardize employer-based coverage without providing an adequate substitute.” The likelihood of so many employers reducing or dropping health insurance benefits is a risk far too great for our nation to take.

The following table should clarify the critical tenets of our nations current health insurance/care crisis:

Proposals obama mccain N Y Times
45-66 Million 'uninsured' Covers 34 Million within 10 yrs. Covers 2 Million within 10 yrs. Obama
25 Million 'underinsured' Provides minimum standards Not addressed Obama
15 Million 'uninsurable' Provides affordable guarantee Provides guarantee with no price limit Obama
30 Million near poverty Affordable and adequate Affordable only Obama
Funding Costs $1.6 billion or $1.2 billion $1.3 billion or $2.1 billion Obama
