Obama’s Proposal, Pt.2 – Focusing on the actual crisis.
Previous…
Still, there are further issues of the crisis that need to
be addressed:
1) Perhaps the most extreme problem is the ‘uninsurable’.
These are the destitute who are simply denied health insurance
due to expensive health problems. The people who need health
insurance the most and have little or no chance of getting it
with either our current system or McCain’s health insurance
plan. There may be as many as 15 million of these people.
2) Another 25 million Americans are known to have inadequate
health insurance. Being ‘underinsured’ is not just an
inconvenience. It is often financially devastating and
sometimes deadly.
3) There are, at least, 45.7 million Americans without any
health insurance and the number has only grown since Mr. Bush
took office 8 years ago. There was a momentary drop last year,
but only because of expansions of government systems that were
opposed by Mr. Bush.
To alleviate these crises, Mr. Obama has plans to provide
more government regulation of the health insurance industry:
1) To address the ‘uninsurable problem, Mr. O would mandate
that the industry offer health insurance to all Americans,
across the board. Of course this will require very serious
negotiations and likely concessions from both sides.
2) To address the ‘underinsured’ problem, Mr. O would Mr.
Obama would also require health insurance policies meet a
minimum standard of benefits.
3) As for the 45.7 million Americans, it is estimated that
as many as 30 million are low-wage earners. Mr. O has devised a
plan to help these people. Using a sliding scale, he will
guarantee that they can afford adequate and affordable health
insurance.
