Mr. McCain’s Definition of ‘Best Coverage’, Pt.9 –
Mr. O is seeking help from employers.
Previous…
Mr. Post criticizes Mr. O’s health insurance proposals on
what he calls some ‘problems’. Again as earlier, the reporter
is making some judgment calls on the readers’ behalf. This
brings us back to the real issue described in article #2 of
this series. There is a culture in America who could care less
about “their fellow Americans”. They are remiss when they don’t
state this explicitly. So, as the readers decide for
themselves, let’s examine these ‘problems’. Mr. O has opened
his books to the public by providing ‘numbers’ to appraise
Americans in order for the experts and wonks to assess and
explain to the more ‘passive thinkers’ who don’t take the time
to understand our nation’s health insurance/care crises. Mr.
McC has not provided many health insurance reform ‘numbers’
showing commitment of serious substance, so only vagueness
remains.
When assessing the numbers, the clearest way to decide is to
state one’s philosophy up front. Mr. O’s was stated in articles
#1 and #2 and reflect: “When almost 50 million Americans are
left without health insurance it should become a top priority.”
Big problems almost always requires big fixes. JFK’s “Ask not
what your country…” speech raised the esteem of our nation to a
nonpareil level. But even then, there was a counter-culture
hiding in the shadows who believed the opposite without the
grit to voice it. Open discussion is good. The health insurance
industry is being called upon to do their part. Our soldiers
don’t give their lives to make the rich richer. They sacrifice
to keep our country the best country. It is not their job to be
the only ones who sacrifice.
