The Maine Issue: Health Insurance/Care, Pt.2 – ‘Obscene
profits’ targeted.
Previous…
The two groups held a rally in Augusta a few months back.
Although they are not locked into a ‘boilerplate’ plan as their
agenda, they do have some very specific priorities. One is that
“Every American should have access” to health insurance. This
could be through employer-based or private individual-based
health insurance, or even a national-based public health
insurance plan.
Even national health care like all the other developed
countries would be fine. But every American must have the
ability to obtain health insurance. They want the ugly
corruption in industry cleaned up and ‘watch-dog’ agents
provided to protect our citizens. The health insurance industry
needs to be scrutinized for “obscene profits”. (Of course, this
would also have to include the health care industry, as well.)
Greed is spiraling out of control. We are the worst of all the
industrialized nations with this health insurance/care problem.
Since this local spark is a ‘grass-roots’-fire spreading in
the State of Maine, the most visible objective is the state’s
largest health insurance company, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue
Shield. The movement has taken specific aim at this giant and
produced significant logistical data for their arsenal. Mr.
Chin is citing an August report. which reveals that Anthem has
shown a 90% increase profits between 2004 and 2007in the state
of Maine. The unacceptable behavior exhibited here is that this
increase, clearly, did not come from new enrollees. Anthem’s
new policies issued to residents of Maine, only accounted to a
paltry 2.4%. 90% = 2.4%? What’s wrong with the math here?
