Mr. McCain on Health Insurance/Care, Pt.3 – The hand that ‘really’ feeds you.

Previous…

We’ve just never asked the right questions. We’re hashing over the obvious and glossing over the point. Wouldn’t it be a complete waste of time to nit-pick to death a defective health insurance/care reform proposal and build a comprehensive speech, only to find out that the opponent doesn’t even care. Details aside, we can’t accomplish anything if our effort is frustrated with having no purpose. It all comes down to the issues and not the trivial distractions. When so many people are dissuaded by over-simplified health insurance/care scenarios like “Harry and Louise” we need to be clear on substance. Are these ‘opinions’ backed up by substance? Health insurance/care reform needs to be at the forefront of the upcoming debates concerning domestic issues. We need to know where our candidates stand and what they consider ‘adequate’.

When we talk about lowering taxes, what is the vision? Everyone loves lower taxes but they, too easily, assume that they, themselves, will benefit. How many realize that Mr. McCain’s tax cuts will only benefit 80% of the population with an average of only $200? How many realize that Mr. Obama’s tax cuts will benefit 80% of the population with an average of $900? (Even with universal health insurance available.) What does it mean when Mr. McCain touts over and over that Mr. Obama only wants to “raise everyone’s taxes”? “Everyone”, in this case is referring mostly to only one-tenth of 1% of our population. Is this really ‘everyone’? Admittedly, there will also be tax hikes for those earning over $250,000 per year (less than 20% of us). So we all agree on a vision, but out of focus. Once in focus, however, we realize that Mr. McCain is referring to a different “us”, other then you and I. We need a clear vision on this issue and, perhaps, even more on health insurance/care reform.
