N.C. Health Care Reflects Big Picture, Pt.5 - Success is
already moving forward.
Previous…
Previous… There tends to be much popular support for the
Health Access Coalition of the N.C. Justice Center‘s health
insurance plan. Director of WNC Community Health Services,
Carlos Gomez is widely in favor of it. He states that it is,
not only reasonable, but a good idea. He sides with the highly
controversial standpoint that government does need to get
involved if meaningful health insurance reform is to take
place. But Mr. Gomez goes a step further that citizens need to
start moving now, and not wait for the government. That’s the
most effective way to get things moving. He favors more
state-by-state experimentation with better health insurance
system models right away. The Massachusetts model is a great
start but, one is not enough.
Joe Damore, of Mission Hospitals, agrees and adds that more
states need to step up with aggressive strategies to break away
from the stagnant our nation situation is locked into because
of the fear of change they tout to support. He believes that
this is going to start happening. The plan’s project director,
Adam Searing, assures us that chances of seeing this new
state-level health insurance system are good. It’s already
becoming an issue in the upcoming North Carolina gubernatorial
race.
Three of the components of this health insurance reform
proposal show very favorable promise of being accepted and
implemented, according to Mr. Searing. Those three are:
1) Every child must be covered.
2) Small businesses must be subsidized and protected from
health insurance providers jacking premium rates because of a
pre-existing condition in the group.
3) Affordable, quality health insurance must be provided to
parents whose children are eligible for Medicaid.
